WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature powered by generative AI. The feature will allow users to edit their photos using an in-built AI-powered editing tool. This feature will enable users to quickly edit, restyle, or ‘expand’ the image background using the AI feature. The company is also developing a new feature that will allow users to ask questions directly from the meta AI services.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (2.24.7.13) has the code for an AI-powered image editor. WABetaInfo has also shared a screenshot of an early version of the publishing feature. The screenshot shows the icon with the green mark at the top left of the HD icon. Tapping on it will give you three options: drop this background, restyle, and expand. However, as the feature is still under development, how each will work must be determined.
Furthermore, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.24.7.14) has a new feature that allows users to ask Meta AI, the company’s productive AI assistant for Meta products, questions using the search box at the top of the app. Meta AI is designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
These features are still under development, so even after updating the app to the latest version, users won’t be able to test them. These features are expected to require further improvement before being rolled out to testers in the beta channel and general users. Reports suggest that these features will also be available for iOS users.
WhatsApp has also launched a new feature that allows users to pin up to three chats. Previously, users could only pin one message on this platform. This feature will make it easier for users to find and access important chats on the platform. The new feature will be available on WhatsApp for Android, iOS, and the web in the next few days.
