WhatsApp’s new features, led by Meta, have recently released several updates to improve convenience and security for its users. The latest key feature allows users to convert voice notes into text format. This feature is currently available for iOS users and may be available for Android users in the future. According to WhatsApp feature tracker WAbetainfo, this feature has recently been launched.
This feature can be helpful in situations where the audio note is not playing. Android beta version 2.24.7.8 currently has this feature, allowing users to change voice notes into text. As part of end-to-end encryption, a transcript will be created on the device itself to protect user privacy.
When this feature becomes available to everyone, approximately 150MB of app data will need to be downloaded, but it will be available by default. If not, users can enable it themselves, and a notification will appear that says, “Read Before You Listen.”
The feature to convert WhatsApp voice notes to texts is still in the testing phase, and the information is only available to some Android beta users. However, it is expected to be available to all users soon.
Another feature currently available to some Android beta testers is the ability to scan UPI QR codes from the WhatsApp chat list. This feature will be useful in India, where UPI is widely used and will strengthen the UPI transaction system through smartphones.
To provide more security to users, WhatsApp has recently launched a feature that doesn’t allow users to take screenshots of WhatsApp profiles. If someone tries to take a screenshot of the WhatsApp profile photo, a popup will appear saying that screenshots are not allowed due to personal information.
Many WhatsApp users, especially women, hesitate to use their photos as WhatsApp profile photos for various security reasons. WhatsApp does not use their photos as profile photos (DP) due to the concern that those photos will be screenshotted and misused. With the newly released feature, those worries are addressed.
